Some schools even completely eliminate the method of using end-of-studies test results in admissions from 2025.
Registration plans should be announced soon
As the enrollment plan planned for 2025 has just been announced, Nha Trang University has become the first school to abandon the option of using the results of high school graduation tests for admission. Instead, the school admits through a combination of transcripts and aptitude test results.
The plan to change the way high school exam results are used in 2025 is also being considered by many schools. Mr. Pham Tan Ha - Vice Rector of the University of Social and Human Sciences, National University of Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City HCM - Given that the 2018 general education program has been divided, candidates choose subjects that match their strengths. Therefore, taking these four topics will not have much impact.
Furthermore, according to Mr. Ha, schools can change the way they admit. Instead of using the results of the secondary school leaving tests of three subjects for admission, it is possible to combine the results of certain subjects of the final examination, the other subject uses the results of the secondary school transcripts. This approach will be fair to candidates. In addition, the weight of the test subjects in the total admission results can be taken into account.
In favour of the majority
With regard to the option of the final examination of four subjects from 2025, including two compulsory subjects and two optional subjects, addressed to the press, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha - Deputy Director of the Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training - said that the number of candidates who want to take 3-4 electives is not high and, if so, it is also wasteful.
As for university admissions, each applicant using multiple combinations at the same time to apply for admission into the same field may be unfair. Therefore, in the short term, candidates can only take two compulsory subjects and two optional subjects. It is also a beneficial solution for the majority, which saves time, effort, cost and pressure.
However, according to many experts, limiting the maximum of two courses to the choice can create an inequality in the choice of the combination of admission as well as in the chances of admission to the university of the candidates.
According to current rules, each combination must include mathematics or literature, or both. Candidates determine the combination of admission based on their strengths. Thus, the group of candidates with strengths and admission to traditional combinations such as mathematics - physics - chemistry, mathematics - chemistry - biology, literature - history - geography will have only one admission combination.
Of course, candidates who choose these traditional combinations can also combine literature or mathematics to create other combinations. However, one of these two compulsory subjects is not a strong point, so it is difficult to compete on the scores.
