Over the past 5 years, sugar cane producers have faced many difficulties, investing in sugar cane has not brought great efficiency, so many farmers are no longer salted. This agricultural year is different, many farmers are enthusiastic because sugar cane is harvested and its price is fixed. However, for sugar cane to grow sustainably, bringing higher benefits to farmers, effective solutions are needed to improve productivity and quality.
Experience, get the price
Watching the harvesting machine regularly cut each block of sugar cane in the field in the Mo Creek area (Ninh Thuong Commune, Ninh Hoa Town), farmer Huynh Van Thong said this year, sugar cane grows very well and the yield is high. Thanks to the initiative in irrigation water and investment in care, more than 21ha of sugar cane the family has achieved a yield of more than 70 tons/ha. With a purchase price of nearly 1.1 million dong/ton (10CCS), higher than the previous season, after deducting expenses, his family made a profit of more than 20 million dong/ha.
Despite the season, sugar cane growers have been worried.
Throughout the vast sugar cane fields of the municipalities: Ninh Tay, Ninh Than, Ninh Xuan, Ninh Tan (Ninh Hoa) is also the time of mass harvest, so there are busy trucks carrying sugar cane, hundreds of workers cutting sugar cane evenly distributed in the fields. Mr. Phan Kien Nghia
Lam Thi Sau owns more than 100 ha of sugar cane in Khanh Vinh.
Currently, in the sweets, hundreds of cars follow each other every day. Mr. Bien Tuan An, Deputy Director of BHS-NH, said that this year the company signed an investment contract with Khanh Hoa farmers for 3,357 ha of sugar cane. To date, farmers have harvested more than 2,100 ha; the average yield reached 63.1 tonnes, an increase of more than 10 tonnes/ha from the previous season; The road was the same as the previous year, with an average of 9.97 CC.
Wonder on the way
In addition to the joy of the harvest, sugar cane farmers, especially households with large areas, have not ceased to worry. «I don’t understand why the sugar level is so low this year», started with us Dang Van Huy, a well-known sugar cane farmer from the Ninh Tan region. Of the 30 ha of sugar cane so far, his family has finished harvesting 23 ha;
Loading and unloading of sugar cane at BHS-NH.
Lam Thi Sau showed us a few messages pointing to the sugar letters on each sugar cane truck that the company reported, “Sugar cane is so popular 7-8CCS that our farmers barely have words.” Then she analyzed, 1 ton of sugar cane reached 8CCS, sold 870,000 VND; While the cost of cutting sugar cane, loading and unloading, transportation, increased by nearly 600,000 dong/ton, the higher the investment cost for the whole year was considered to be breaking even.
Mr. Chu Duc Hung, Deputy Director General of the Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Quality Management, said that at the end of February, the delegation chaired by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with a number of relevant departments, branches and localities to conduct the inspection. supervise the process of determining the quality of raw sugar cane at BHS-NH and Vietsugar. As a result, in 2 companies, all activities of weighing sugar cane, sampling to determine the percentage of fiber, sugar letters, impurity levels are carried out openly and in accordance with the advertised process. BHS-NH made public the identification of road signatures thanks to the video surveillance system in the waiting room.
Focus on improving productivity and quality
We can see that in well-invested areas, sugar cane yields are high. However, the key point of the partnership between sugar cane producers and supply companies is that the sugar element has not really satisfied sugar cane producers. BHS-NH has a road signature insurance policy, sugar cane trolleys below 9CCS will be insured as 9CCS, thus partly guaranteeing sugar cane producers.
Sugar cane harvesting machine in Ninh Hoa.
According to Mr. Bien Tuan An, in this crop season, with the harvested areas, after deducting the expenses that BHS-NH has invested, the harvesting costs, sugarcane farmers achieved an average profit of over 21.1 million VND/ha (in the 2021 - 2022 season, it was nearly 10.2 million VND/ha). BHS-NH has also increased machinery, including 2 cane-cutting machines, 10 cane-loading machines. At the same time, they have increased hundreds of laborers from neighboring provinces to support farmers in harvesting sugarcane to ensure the right time, minimize sugarcane lying on the fields, affecting quality. In the next crop season, BHS-NH will focus on increasing the harvested area by machine from the current 570ha to over 600ha; increase the area of fertilizer spraying by drones (currently reaching 2,000ha); continue to implement investment support policies to increase the area, apply techniques to increase the average productivity to 65 tons/ha.
According to information from the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection of the province, the sugarcane area for the 2022 - 2023 crop is 9,114ha, decreasing by over 1,000ha compared to the previous crop season. Up to now, farmers in the province have harvested 3,805ha; average yield is 53.3 tons/ha, increasing by over 3 tons/ha compared to the previous crop season.
At the working session of Mr. Le Huu Hoang - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee with Vietsugar at the beginning of 2023, Vietsugar hopes that the province will soon plan the raw material area, thereby having support policies for transportation, irrigation, and transportation into production areas to assist sugarcane farmers in reducing production costs, increasing productivity, and quality of crops. Comrade Le Huu Hoang proposed the company to continue researching, improving sugarcane varieties, enhancing technology innovation, and minimizing production costs.
According to Mr. Le Ba Ninh - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, sugarcane is one of the key crops with product consumption contracts. However, sugarcane farmers have faced many difficulties in recent years. The reason is due to scattered areas, difficult to apply machinery. On the other hand, transportation infrastructure, irrigation is not synchronous, most sugarcane varieties have deteriorated, and productivity is still low, needing change. These are also the tasks set for the agriculture sector, sugar companies, and farmers in the coming time to further improve the productivity and quality of this crop, especially in the context of the tendency to decrease sugarcane planting areas as it is now.
