SRDC has large-scale production of single-eyed sugarcane seedlings at low cost, and successfully transferred technology to farmers.
In order to ensure the quality of sugarcane seed for the new planting and grazing crop in the 2020-2021 period, Thanh Thanh Cong Sugarcane Research and Application Joint Stock Company (SRDC) has deployed large-scale production sugarcane gourd with one eye sprouts at low cost to supply to farmers. This technique has also been disseminated and transferred to farmers in the campaign "Accompany with TTC Sugar to raise Vietnamese sugarcane" launched in June 2020 so that farmers can self-produce seedlings.
Sugarcane seed nursery technique has many advantages
During the past time, the SRDC has made efforts to improve the nursery method of sugarcane. The new technique using plastic trays and pre-mixed coconut coir, helped reduce material and labor consumption, increase production speed and volume to meet the need of planting new and growing sugar cane.
The technique of nursery sugarcane has the advantage of saving three times more cuttings compared to traditional techniques. Specifically, one hectare of gourd sugarcane only needs about 2-3 tons of sugarcane seed compared to about 9-11 tons of sugarcane seed when cutting.
SRDC also recommends that farmers use Root Booster preparations to treat cuttings to stimulate sugarcane cuttings to take root, branching right in the nursery process at the garden. Since then, the seedlings are strong and healthy, and they will increase the rate of healthy and well-developed plants to 90%.

Sugarcane seed from the monocotyledon tropic method has the advantage of rapid growth, shortening the time in the nursery compared to planting with cuttings. Sugarcane can also be planted all year round, even during the dry season. Thanks to good growth, strong health and high adaptability, the fruit cane can be harvested at the same time as the original sugarcane in the first year. Compared with other methods of planting, gourd gourd planting helps to ensure annual density and yield as well as prolong the time of root retention, increasing production efficiency.
Spread modern technology to farmers
In addition to mass production at SRDC, a number of advanced farmers have approached and gradually replicated this technique into practice. Typically at Farming Station No. 2 - TTC Bien Hoa (Tan Dong commune, Tan Chau district, Tay Ninh), Mr. Nguyen Phi Hung has produced over 80,000 pots by himself to serve for new planting and planting gnaw for crop 2020. - 2021. This is the result of farmers' active adoption of innovation, together with technical support from SRDC.
Sugarcane seedlings have been mastered by farmers and actively produced, well developed, and have many branches.
In general, the total cost of seeds and planting (by mechanical machinery) is about VND 16-17 million per hectare, still higher than planting by cuttings from VND 4-5 million per hectare. Therefore, people should have appropriate calculations to get the most economic efficiency when applying this technique. If planting new varieties, people should choose the technique of monocotyledon because of high economic efficiency.
A positive signal is that the cost of seedlings has decreased more than 4 times to only VND 800 compared to VND 3,000-5,000 previously. On the other hand, farmers who are well versed in techniques can produce themselves in their available conditions at negligible costs, thereby taking the money to make profits and actively source seed
