Currently, sugarcane industry is going to new farming year 2016 – 2017 and there are concerns with unstainable material area for production due to changes of weather, especially flood situation caused by La Nina phenomenon.
Domestic sugar industry is positive to develop material area
According to statistic of Vietnam Sugarcane Association, currently, Vietnam has 40 sugar factories with total designed production is 155,300 ton per day. Although it is forecasted facing difficulties in the new farming season year, some sugar factories planned to manufacture higher production than previous farming season year. This seems to be a positive signal for domestic sugar industry in positive dealing with climate changes and enhance competitive ability in area.
In some large scale factories, preparation work for new farming season is comprehensive implemented by mechanization, irrigation, harvest and big field organization. This solution is emplemented by factory and farmer together, step by step to encourage high quality cane, organize agriculture work to utilize effectiveness. Accordingly, make sure positiveness and production, sugar content of cane.
Based on the practiced implementation in Thanh Thanh Cong Sugarcane JSC (TTCS, belong to TTC Group) of this year, total ability of harvesting cane by machine reached 3,500 ton – 9,500 ton per day, help reducing loss 3 – 5% compared with previous years, reduce production cost. The percentage of sugarcane burning reduces from 15% (2014 – 2015) down to 8% in farming year (2015 – 2016), the goal aimed to below 5% in the new farming year. Application of cutting near the root of the cane help increasing 2 – 4 ton per hectar compared to the old technique, contribute to enhance productivity and income of farmers.
In 2015 – 2016 farming season year, thanks for effective irrigation in over 40% area, cane production increased average 20%, reach roughly 80 ton per hectar, total production of cane achieved 1,090,000 ton, increased about 110,000 ton year over year. At the same time, facing heavy rain lasting for long time, TTCS is active to regulate time of cultivation in order to reduce effect of weather, contribute to stable sugar content and reduce cane transportation for farmers
These policies contribute to affect positively to farmers to feel asure in engaging cane, illustrated by cane growing partnership area between factories and farmers to keep stable through the years. Total area invested by TTCS increasing from 12,000 hectar to 13,800 hectar in farming season year (2015 – 2016)
