According to the Vietnam Sugarcane and Sugar Association (VSSA), the output of sugarcane is expected approximately 1.5 million tons of sugar in the 2017 – 2018 period, plus the imported sugar under tariff quota, the imported sugar from Laos, so basically, the supply meets the demand for domestic consumption. However, the status of smuggled sugar is still occurring, as well as there are fluctuations of supply and demand in the word’s sugar industry leading to affect greatly on the development and stability of the domestic sugar industry.

At present, Vietnam's sugarcane industry has more than 40 production plants with about 300,000 hectares of sugarcane, and 5.4 tons of sugar’s output per year These figures have a noticeable influence on Vietnamese economic potential. With the current situation of the sugarcane industry, enterprises are constantly striving to find solutions of production restructuring, science and technology renovation aiming to reduce production costs, lower price and improve competition in the integration’s context. Accordingly, in order to enhance the position of sustainable development, VSSA and TTC Group jointly organize The 5th TTC Annual International Sugarcane Conference with the theme "The Restructure of Vietnam Sugarcane Industry" taking place on from the 17th to 18th of August, 2017 at the TTC Palace - Binh Thuan Convention Center – Address: No. 01, Tu Van Tu Street, Phu Trinh Ward, Phan Thiet City, Binh Thuan Province.
The conference with the participation of experts coming from many countries around the world discusses on the policy of restructuring sugarcane industry, experience sharing and international solutions for Vietnam sugarcane industry. One of the key issues, “Impact of Thailand restructuring sugar industry policy on global sugar market”, is shared by Mr. Prasert Tapaneeyangkul - President of Thailand Environmental Engineering Association and “The policy of Brazilian sugarcane industry” is presented by Mr. Guilherme Nastari - Director of Datagro Agricultural Advisory Group. In addition, the management standards of technical, agricultural and by-sugar products development’s process in Australia are also highlighted at the event.
Developing sugarcane industry contributes not only to the economic stabilization, but also a matter of social security.
As a result, policies for the sugarcane industry should be harmonized the benefits of enterprise, farmers (sugarcane growers). Mr. Pham Quoc Doanh – President of Vietnam Sugarcane and Sugar Association (VSSA) – presents an “Overview of the policy for Vietnamese sugarcane industry”, in which mentions the current situation and solution to solve problems for sugarcane farmers and enterprises operating in this industry.
