The maintenance work at the Nha Trang tourist port, which originally had low capacity, has posed difficulties for receiving international cruise ships. Therefore, the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee sought to address this issue by designating the Cam Ranh International Port as an additional arrival point for tourists.

On February 22nd, the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, along with leaders from various departments, surveyed the Cam Ranh International Port to facilitate the reception of international cruise ships.
According to Tan Cang - Petro Cam Ranh Limited Liability Company (a subsidiary of Saigon Newport Corporation), the Cam Ranh International Port has been operational since March 2016, with a total length of 2,147 meters, including two piers capable of accommodating cargo ships up to 110,000 DWT and passenger ships up to 226,000 GT.
The port is located 5 nautical miles from the international maritime route, with a 303-hectare anchorage area in the wind-protected Binh Ba Bay, ensuring year-round maritime operations. From 2016 to date, the port has received 19 international cruise ship arrivals.
The company hopes that the province will consider and facilitate more international cruise ship arrivals at the Cam Ranh International Port in line with the port's functions and the government's maritime development plan.
During the meeting, Mr. Dinh Van Thieu, Vice Chairman of the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, mentioned that the Nha Trang Port is currently undergoing repairs, making it difficult to receive maritime arrivals. Therefore, utilizing the Cam Ranh International Port for welcoming tourist ships to Khanh Hoa is essential.
Mr. Thieu requested the company to finalize plans for ship arrivals and departures at the port, including contingency plans for adverse weather conditions. He also instructed the Department of Tourism to address difficulties in receiving tourist ships at the Cam Ranh International Port, organize conferences to promote maritime tourism, and collaborate with relevant agencies to engage with shipping companies.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Thanh, Director of the Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism, stated that during the survey, the delegation highly appreciated the infrastructure at the port. She emphasized the need for the port to develop plans for receiving international cruise ships, particularly in cooperation with Naval Region 4 to facilitate passenger arrivals. The Department of Tourism and the Tourism Association will actively promote and publicize the port as a destination for international cruise ship arrivals to businesses.
Ms. Thanh mentioned that in 2024, the province plans to receive 44 maritime arrivals with a large number of passengers. Besides choosing to dock at the Cam Ranh International Port, international ships can still anchor outside Nha Trang Bay, and passengers will be shuttled to Nha Trang Port by tender boats.
Nha Trang Port to Halt Cruise Ship Arrivals for 6 Months
Previously, in December 2023, the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee issued a temporary suspension of activities at Nha Trang Port for maintenance and repairs due to deterioration.
During the construction period (not exceeding 6 months), the port will not receive domestic passenger ships but will continue to accommodate international cruise ships.
