A series of tourism promotion and development programs by Ho Chi Minh City in and out of the country in 2024 are expected to bring breakthrough developments to the city's tourism industry.
On February 21, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism officially announced the tourism promotion programs for both domestic and international markets in 2024.
Launching 16 programs
According to the announcement, there will be 8 domestic tourism promotion programs and 6 international tourism promotion programs to be implemented by the tourism industry of Ho Chi Minh City this year.
Mr. Le Truong Hien Hoa, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, stated that besides possessing numerous unique architectural landmarks, tourist attractions, and rich cultural-historical values, Ho Chi Minh City also attracts domestic and international tourists with year-round vibrant entertainment activities and festival atmospheres.
"In 2024, the city's tourism industry enters a period of accelerated growth. In addition to efforts to enhance the quality of annual domestic events, the Department of Tourism identifies that international promotion activities need to be invested in more depth and professionalism. International promotion programs will serve as a bridge to support tourism businesses in connecting with reputable international tourism partners," said Mr. Hien Hoa.
Among the target markets for enhanced promotion and marketing efforts, Ho Chi Minh City will focus on markets such as the UK, Germany, the US, Singapore, Australia, etc. From May 14 to 16, the Department of Tourism will participate in the Vietnam Tourism Promotion Program - Ho Chi Minh City at the IMEX Frankfurt Trade Fair (Germany), setting up booths, organizing B2B trading connections, and introducing the city's tourism products and services.
"This will be the first time the Department of Tourism participates in the IMEX Frankfurt 2024 Fair - one of the world's leading trade fairs. The fair expects to welcome about 2,900 exhibitors from 150 countries and territories; more than 3,000 buyers from 84 countries; and about 180 media units from 20 countries," Mr. Hien Hoa informed.
To meet the needs of tourism businesses in promoting tourism in the UK, the Department of Tourism will also organize a Ho Chi Minh City tourism booth for the first time, alongside Vietnam booths by the National Tourism Administration and Vietnamese businesses at the WTM London Fair (UK). The Vietnam Tourism Promotion Program - Ho Chi Minh City is scheduled to take place from November 5 to 7 in London.

Expectations for a vibrant year
In addition to boosting promotion and marketing, the city's tourism industry also implements a series of events, festivals, and domestic tourism promotion programs such as welcoming tourist groups to Ho Chi Minh City at the beginning of 2024; Tet Festival; Ao Dai Festival in Ho Chi Minh City; Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Day; Waterway Festival; Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Week; and the International Marathon Tournament - Techcombank Ho Chi Minh City 2024.
Among these, the Waterway Festival is scheduled to take place from May 31 to June 8. This is a potential tourism product that the city is promoting investment in, promoting, and expecting to become a distinctive tourism product in the future.
According to experts from RMIT University, waterway tourism in Ho Chi Minh City still has great potential for development. For example, the Saigon Waterbus service operating along the Saigon River promises to provide tourists with a new and beautiful perspective to experience the city's landscape.
The aforementioned programs and events have received high consensus from tourism professionals and businesses, expecting to create a vibrant and breakthrough year for the tourism development of Ho Chi Minh City.
Setting a target of welcoming 6 million international visitors
In 2024, the tourism industry of Ho Chi Minh City sets a target of welcoming 6 million international visitors, about 38 million domestic visitors, and a total revenue of VND 190 trillion. For the Tet Nguyen Dan 2024 holiday alone, the city expects to welcome about 75,000 international visitors; about 1.8 million visitors to tourist areas and destinations; and revenue of about VND 6,550 billion.
