Referring to the natural tourism resources of the Mekong Delta (Mekong Delta), the Deputy Director General of the National Tourism Administration of Vietnam, Pham Van Thuy, said that in the strategy and planning of the development of tourism in Vietnam at all times, the Mekong Delta has always been positioned as a tourist region. has distinct characteristics, has intra-regional and extra-regional relations for the development of tourism.

MANY FAVORABLE CONDITIONS

According to statistics from the National Tourism Administration of Vietnam, with a variety of tourism products, in 2019 - period of strong development of Vietnamese tourism before the Covid-epidemic19, the total number of tourists in the localities of the Mekong Delta reached 46.4 million, representing about 45% of the country’s total tourist arrivals. After the pandemic, in 2022, the Mekong Delta (Mekong Delta) attracted more than 37.5 visitors, an increase of 238.45% compared to the same period in 2021, with the region’s total tourism revenue reaching over 32.078.7 billion VND last year.

The Mekong Delta has always been positioned as a tourist region, with distinct characteristics, intra-regional and extra-regional relations for the development of tourism.

 

So far, not only industry companies, but also many experts in the field have affirmed the joint cooperation program for the development of tourism between Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City, with 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta, is the first regional liaison programme to be implemented, which has had a ripple effect across the country. In order to promote tourism links, localities and businesses have actively transformed digitally, applying technology - including artificial intelligence (AI) - to destination promotion activities, creating new products with high efficiency.

Joint Cooperation Programme for Tourism Development between Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta is the first regional liaison programme to be implemented, creating a contagion effect throughout the country.

 

Assessment of tourism potential related to Ho Chi Minh City In Ho Chi Minh City, many companies said that the favorable conditions were a fast-growing infrastructure for several years; quality of services of hotels, restaurants, resorts... There are a lot of improvements. Number of routes connecting Ho Chi Minh City with more Mekong Delta, creating conditions to attract national and international tourists to this region is increasing.

On 10/12, the People’s Committee of Ca Mau Province and the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City co-organized the conference «Summary of the programme of liaison and cooperation in tourism development between Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City and 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta” on the theme “Improving Connectivity - Sustainable Development”. Thus, in 2023, the provinces and cities of the Mekong Delta hosted 07 famtrip programs, connecting tourism and travel companies of Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces and cities with tourist service providers in Long An, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Dong Thap, Soc Trang, Vinh Long, Tien Giang, An Giang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau with about 600 tourism and travel companies participating in the connection.

Domestic tourists remain dominant, with more than 2.7 million tourists participating in the Mekong Delta affiliate program.

 

However, some key content such as the project to organize an international promotional conference to invite tourism investments to Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City and 13 provinces and cities of the Mekong Delta; the creation of a website to promote tourism throughout the region, a conference to stimulate the demand for regional tourism... This was not possible due to the influence of other professional content and coordination work.
