With 95.14% of delegates in favor, the National Assembly adopted a draft law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Exit and Entry of Vietnamese Citizens and the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of foreigners in Vietnam. This is a strong incentive to boost the tourism industry in the race to attract international visitors.

Accordingly, the validity period of electronic visas (e-visas) will be extended from 30 to 90 days. After being granted an e-visa, foreign nationals can enter and exit Vietnam without any limitations on the number of times within the -day period, without the need to apply for a new visa.

The law also allows citizens of certain countries unilaterally exempted from visa requirements by Vietnam to be issued temporary residence permits for 45 days (previously 15 days) and to be considered for visa issuance and extension according to regulations.

It is expected that the visa and open-door policy will be the last element to propel Vietnam's tourism industry forward at an accelerated pace

Expectations of a 5-25% annual increase in visitor numbers

Vietravel is planning to survey destinations and design tour products for international travelers with tours from Vietnam to neighboring countries such as Laos, and Cambodia, extending the length of stay in Vietnam.

Ms. Pham Phuong Anh, General Director of Vietravel, remarks that with simple and convenient procedures, foreign visitors are not required to visit Vietnamese representative agencies abroad or go through intermediaries to apply for visas.

This contributes to diversifying and enhancing the appeal of tour products from Vietnamese travel companies. At the same time, improving opportunities to expand cooperation with international partners, such as travel agencies, airlines, and hotels from other countries, brings long-term benefits to the tourism industry.

Indeed, this change in policy will bring to Vietnam a massive development of the tourism economy with numerous visitors.

Concerning immigration, rules also need to be reviewed but the new VISA policy is likely to attract mass tourists. All this will also encourage a quest for new professional opportunities.

Ultimately, the open visa policy is a significant boost for the industry as the peak international tourism season approaches the end of the year. Tourism in Vietnam in the coming period is sure to recover rapidly, “confidently affirmed the leader of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.”

"Golden" opportunity to open the market to visitors

The leader of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism has never assessed the name Vietnam as close to world travelers as it is now. Almost every week, we have a destination, a hotel, a work, a business, or a food item that ranks among the top in the continental and global lists, as voted by reputable international press agencies. We are currently a favored destination for the two largest markets in the world, India and China. Even people from distant markets such as Europe and the US, after visiting Vietnam, have a good impression and vote for us in various polls.
