
Tourism includes: travel, hotel and restaurant. Tourism also divided into domestic and foreign. Foreign includes inbound (foreigner visitor come to Vietnam) and outbound (Vietnamese visitor come out of Vietnam and expat from Vietnam come to the third country).
In economy, export is a standard to evaluate potential. To tourism, ranking is based on mainly from inbound visitors, the people bring foreign money to Vietnam.

In 2015, domestic and outbound tourism of Vietnam has successfully development. Domestic tourism increases over 15%, estimate achieved 45 million visitors. Outbound increases over 20%, about 6 million visitors, there are markets increasing over 50% like Janpan. On the contrary, inbound tourism reduced, just increasing over 0.9%, not yet over 8 million visitors benmark. This is the lowest increasing level from 2009. Growth graph of inbounf tourism is reducing dramatically. In 2010, it increased 35%, in 2011, reduced 19%, in 2012, reduced 14%, in 2013, reduced 11%, in 2014, reduced 4%.
While Vietnam slows down, the other countries in ASEAN still have good result. Based on this, about 3 to 4 upcoming years, Campodia, Lao and Myanmar will beat Vietnam in attracting tourists. Considering effective tourist welcoming based on population in ASEAN, Vietnam is ranked only higher than Indonesia
How to reduce the gap?
In 2016, Vietnam set the target to welcome 8.5 million international visitors (nearly a half visitors come to Singapore in 2015), increase about 7% compared last year. To achieve the target, Culture – Sport and Tourism ministry announced: “2016 National Travel Program – Phu Quóc and Mekong Delta” include 56 events.
Tourism is a general economy industry, relative to all social. To accelerate this industry is a puzzle. To Vietnam Inbound Travel, to reduce the gap with the tops of ASEAN and do not let the followers catch up and pass is much harder.
Reality showed that if we want tourism develop and accelerate, we have a road map to comprehensive solving particular problems. Each province choose some works, every year finishing some particular issues then just few years, Vietnam travel will boom.
First and foremost, it is started from human, from the highest management level. Travel is like a international race, undefined time but the goal each year is clear. To not backward, need to change the tactic, change even “coach” is necessary to reduce the gap with other travel developed countries.
