To continue to be a pillar for economic development and wealth creation for farmers, agriculture in Hanoi is gradually shifting from agricultural production to agricultural economy, increasing value, and protecting the ecological environment.

Stable growth

The Agricultural Cooperative of Tien Le, Tien Yen Commune (Hoai Duc District) is a typical unit in linking its members to produce safe vegetables and is the focal point for signing contracts with enterprises to purchase products for cooperative members.

Director of the Agricultural Cooperative of Tien Le, Nguyen Van Hoa, shared that the unit currently has more than 500 households participating in growing VietGAP vegetables on a total area of 33.5 hectares. Every day, the cooperative supplies the market with 12 - 14 tons of various vegetables, and has signed contracts with 5 - 10 enterprises to directly consume nearly 50% of the total output of safe vegetables.

In the process of linking with enterprises, the cooperative has proactively built production plans, cultivated areas, and monitored from planting, caring to harvesting. Linking with enterprises in the consumption stage has created stable outlets for agricultural products of the cooperative, increasing the income of its members.

In Phuc Tho district, the high-tech poultry egg processing plant of Ba Huan Hanoi Joint Stock Company has been operating stably for 10 years. The entire process of processing and producing poultry eggs operates on modern technology assembly lines.

With an automated system, poultry eggs go through 8 stages of processing, of which the most prominent are the UV radiation stage to kill bacteria inside the eggs and the stage of sealing air holes to prevent bacteria from entering inside. Ba Huan poultry eggs after sterilization reach 99.9%, according to international standards.

According to the report of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Hanoi is one of the localities with a large agricultural land area, with over 197,000 hectares, of which agricultural land for production is nearly 160,000 hectares. Recently, the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has cooperated with localities to enhance the application of science and technology in production, implementing area codes, ensuring traceability, quality, and food safety.

Along with that, Hanoi implements land accumulation, concentrates land to develop large-scale, high-tech agriculture, creates conditions to attract businesses to invest in agricultural production; strengthens linkage between enterprises, cooperatives, cooperative groups, and households to organize agricultural production according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP, organic standards, and combined agriculture-tourism models. As a result, the value of agricultural production in Hanoi has achieved high growth and proactively supplied part of clean and safe agricultural products to consumers in the capital.

Promote production linkage, product consumption

Currently, agricultural production in Hanoi faces many difficulties and challenges. Economic restructuring in agriculture is still slow, not commensurate with the potential and advantages of the capital. Agricultural production is still small-scale, fragmented, and has not formed truly concentrated production areas with sharpened commodity production. Investment attraction in agriculture is low, and the development of value chains from production to consumption of products is still underdeveloped...

To maintain the growth momentum, the agricultural sector of Hanoi is implementing many solutions, focusing on organizing production, linking product consumption. According to Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Dai, Hanoi is developing specialized agricultural areas linked to brand building, tourism development, to increase production value.

Information from the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development shows that in 2023, the growth rate of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries in Hanoi increased by 2.74% compared to the same period in 2022. The value of agricultural, forestry, and fisheries production in 2023 is estimated at VND 41,681 billion, an increase of 2.71% compared to the same period in 2022.

In 2024, the agricultural sector sets a production growth target of 2.5 - 3%.

Hanoi also chooses to invest systematically in agriculture models in a deep direction, suitable for the land accumulation capacity of the locality. In addition, Hanoi also forms high-quality seed production areas (fruit trees, ornamental flowers, urban trees...), meeting the requirements of green urban development of the capital and neighboring provinces and cities. Agricultural production areas invested in technology and finance will become centers of high-tech agriculture, sustainable ecological agriculture development.

Regarding this issue, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen said that Hanoi will vigorously develop agriculture towards increasing value; replicate agricultural models applying high technology, combined tourism experiences; continue to develop high-quality seed production facilities supplying to neighboring provinces and cities; especially, promoting production and consumption linkage models to ensure the supply of agricultural products for the capital market.
