In the past 5 years, sugarcane farmers have faced many difficulties, investment in sugarcane has not brought great efficiency, so many farmers in Khanh Hoa are no longer salty. This agricultural year is different, many farmers are excited because the sugarcane is harvested and its price is fixed.
However, for sugarcane to grow sustainably, bringing higher profits to farmers, effective solutions are needed to improve productivity and quality.
Get Tough, Get the Price
Looking at the machine regularly harvesting each block of sugarcane in the field in the Mo Creek area (Ninh Thuong commune, Ninh Hoa city, Khanh Hoa), farmer Huynh Van Thong said that this year, the sugarcane has grown very well and given a high yield.
Although the sugarcane crop is harvested and priced, sugarcane farmers in Khanh Hoa have not stopped worrying.
All along the vast sugarcane fields of the communes: Ninh Tay, Ninh Than, Ninh Xuan, Ninh Tan (Ninh Hoa) is also the time of mass harvesting, so there are busy trucks transporting sugarcane, hundreds of workers cutting sugarcane evenly distributed in the fields.

Questioning the path

The purchase price is 1,070,000 VND/ton of sugarcane with 10 CCS. "However, nearly half of the sugarcane carts in my family only reach 7 or 8 degrees of sugar. In the same sugarcane field, harvested at the same time, and transported to the factory in three sugarcane carts, one cart reaches 9 degrees, one cart gets 6 degrees, and one cart gets 7 degrees. The difference is unreasonable to the point of being unfair," said Mr. Huy.
Focus on improving productivity and quality
It can be seen that in areas that have been invested in a comprehensive manner, sugarcane yields are high. However, the key point in the cooperative relationship between sugarcane farmers and purchasing businesses is that the sugar content factor still does not really satisfy sugarcane farmers.

According to information from the Provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, the area of sugarcane in the 2022-2023 crop year is 9,114 hectares, down by more than 1,000 hectares from the previous crop year. To date, farmers in the province have harvested 3,805 hectares; the average yield is 53.3 tons/hectare, an increase of more than 3 tons/hectare from the previous crop year.
