The Academy of Finance (Academy of Finance) is a public agency under the Ministry of Finance, established under Decision No. 120/2001/QD-TTg dated August 17, 2001, by the Prime Minister, based on the merger of 3 units: Hanoi University of Finance and Accounting, Institute of Financial Research, and Financial Officer Training Center. In 2003, the institution additionally accepted the Institute of Market Research.
Its mission is to "provide high-quality financial and accounting training and scientific research products to society."

Currently, People's Teacher, Professor, Doctor Nguyen Trong Co is the Director of the Academy and Associate Professor, Doctor Nguyen Dao Tung is the Chairman of the School Council.
The headquarters of the academy is located at 58 Le Van Hien, Duc Thang Ward, Bac Tu Liem District, Hanoi.
According to the introduction on the school's website, the Academy of Finance has the function and task of training undergraduate and postgraduate officials in the fields of finance, accounting, business administration, Financial English, and Financial Accounting Computing with 4 types of training programs (including: regular university, working and studying university, double degree university, university linkage); Scientific research and management technology training in the fields of finance, accounting, business administration to serve the formulation of financial and economic policies for the industry and the country; serving teaching and management; Professional and technical training according to standards for financial and accounting.
According to the investigation of the Vietnam Education Electronic Magazine through the Academy of Finance's Admissions Project from 2019 to 2023, the admission methods and criteria of this unit also changed.
In 2019, the Academy only admitted to groups A00, A01, and D01, according to 03 methods: Direct admission and point addition priority as prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training; Direct admission of excellent high school students based on high school academic results; Admission based on the results of the 2019 National High School Graduation Examination.
From 2020 to 2023, the Academy additionally admitted to group D07.

However, by 2022 and 2023, this unit had removed the admission method based on high school academic results for foreign candidates.
Instead, it retained the remaining 4 methods from 2021 (direct admission and priority admission based on regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training; admission based on excellent high school students; admission based on high school graduation examination results; admission based on international English certificate combined with high school graduation examination results), along with the new method of admission based on the results of the competency assessment examination of the Hanoi National University and the reasoning assessment examination of Hanoi University of Science and Technology (total of 5 admission methods).
The total university enrollment target of the Academy of Finance from 2019 to 2023 fluctuated from 3,800 to 4,200 targets. Specifically, in 2019, 2020, and 2023, the school had 4200 targets, in 2021 it was 4,000 targets, and in 2022, it had the lowest target in 5 years of 3800 targets.
Most recently, in 2023, the total enrollment target was 4,200, including: the undergraduate enrollment target is 4080 (standard program target is 3,000, high-quality training program is 1,080), and the enrollment target for joint training programs, each side is awarded a bachelor's degree - DDP is 120.

From 2019 to 2022, the proportion of direct admission targets and targets for excellent high school students of the Academy of Finance accounted for at least 50% and tended to increase in 2023. In 2023, the proportion of direct admission targets and targets for excellent high school students accounted for 60%; admission based on competency assessment, reasoning assessment at most 5%, the remaining is admission based on high school graduation examination results and combined admission.
Regarding changes in admissions for majors (specializations), in 2019, the Academy of Finance admitted to 2 groups of majors III, VII, including majors: Finance - Banking, Accounting, Business Administration, Management Information Systems, Economics, and English Language. From 2020, majors under the High-Quality Training Program such as Customs & Logistics, Corporate Finance, Financial Analysis, Corporate Accounting, and Auditing also had their own admission codes (multiplied by a factor of 2 for English).
In the last 2 years (2022, 2023), the Finance - Banking major was divided into 3 programs by the Academy of Finance, specifically: Finance - Banking 1 (including majors: Public Finance Management, Taxation, Customs and Foreign Trade Operations, International Finance, Financial Policy Analysis); Finance - Banking 2 (including Corporate Finance, Financial Analysis, Valuation and Real Estate Business); Finance - Banking 3 (including Banking, Insurance Finance, Financial Investment).

In recent years, the majors/specializations with the highest admission scores of the Academy can be mentioned as follows: Customs & Logistics (CLC - English coefficient 2) with an admission score of 35.51 points in 2023; English Language major (English coefficient 2) with an admission score of 34.40 points in 2023; Financial Analysis (CLC - English coefficient 2) with an admission score of 34.60 in 2023; Corporate Finance (CLC - English coefficient 2) with an admission score of 34.25 points in 2023.
