The "Golden Milestone" program of 50 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Canada was held on the morning of 20-8 at Ho Chi Minh City Botanical Park. Ho Chi Minh City, which cares for 1,400 underprivileged children.

"Golden Milestone" organized by the Vietnam-Canada Ho Chi Minh City Friendship Association Ho Chi Minh City, Consulate General of Canada in Ho Chi Minh City Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations In Ho Chi Minh City, the volunteer group "Partage" of Mrs. Mai Thi Hanh - wife of former President Truong Tan Sang - and the newspaper Tuoi Tre were jointly organized.

As part of this program, 1,400 disadvantaged children, including 1,000 in Ho Chi Minh City.

In Ho Chi Minh City, 200 children from Long An and 200 children from Ba Chuc (An Giang) celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival and received gifts to prepare for the new school year. The total cost of gifts and money is more than VND2.7 billion.

Exchange opportunities for the people of both countries

Mr. Phan Van Mai spoke highly of the importance of the Golden Milestone program, saying it is an opportunity for Canadians and communities living in Ho Chi Minh City. HCM exchanges and understands each other.

 In addition, coming together to care for 1,400 underprivileged children is a very human activity of the program.

"I am convinced that taking care of the younger generation, who hold the future of Canada-Vietnam relations, is one of our best preparations for bilateral relations over the next half-century," Mai said.

"Work hard, study well to have a bright future"

Consul General of Canada in Ho Chi Minh City Ho Chi Minh City Behzad Babakhani shared with the children his own process of effort. He told me that when he was your age, he didn't speak English.

He said he hadn't seen his parents in 10 years, washing dishes, carrying calves and driving taxis to make ends meet. "When I immigrated to Canada as an adult, life wasn't easy, I had no money and I didn't have relatives or friends. 

I learned a lot on my own. Thanks to the support of the people around me, I became a better person. I want to tell them to work hard, study well and have good friends around them, they will have a good future," he said.

On this occasion, the program was inaugurated and the Consulate General of Canada in Ho Chi Minh City awarded it the symbol of the Inukshuk. HCM.
