Without denying the role of coal power, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said it was time to move to a cleaner energy source. This is an objective requirement and a top priority.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh participated and spoke at the seminar on «Accelerating the transition to coal» chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron, during the 28th Conference of the Parties to the Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in Dubai. United Arab Emirates.
The President of the Republic and the leaders of countries and organizations stressed the urgency of reducing dependence on coal, making the energy transition and developing renewable energies.

According to the leaders, developing countries cannot be asked to choose between energy transition and economic development. Instead, effective tools need to be developed to support and accelerate this transition.
Speaking at the seminar, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh told that Vietnam, like other developing countries, cannot deny the role of coal energy, but that it is time to move to a cleaner source of energy.
Vietnam will complement institutions, legal frameworks, mechanisms and policies for the transition to renewable energy with a roadmap and appropriate steps, according to information shared by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh during the seminar.

For rapid transformation, he noted the transformation of governance technology, impact assessment and treatment, financial mobilization, promotion of public-private cooperation and international cooperation.
In addition, the Prime Minister thanked the G7 countries (including France) and other international partners for their support to Vietnam in its energy transition, notably through the implementation of the Political Declaration establishing a Partnership for a Just Energy Transition (JETP)
According to the Prime Minister, this contributes to global green transformation efforts. He also asked the partners to strengthen support in Vietnam for preferential financing, advanced technologies, training of high-quality human resources and the implementation of a smart management system.
The leaders of France, the President of the European Commission, the United States and the leaders of international financial institutions praised Vietnam’s commitment and efforts. The countries claimed to support and accompany Vietnam in the process of energy transition, for the benefit of Vietnam and the common interests of the world.
