Regarding equitable energy transition, the target of the proportion of renewable energy in the total primary energy threshold is 15-20% by 2030 and about 80-85% by 2050.

On August 9, the Ministry of Industry and Trade held a conference to announce national sector plannings in the energy and mineral sector for the period of 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.

Accordingly, the strategic reserves and supply of petroleum, national gas, and the exploration, exploitation, processing, and utilization of minerals were approved in Decision No. 861 dated July 18th by the Prime Minister; the comprehensive national energy planning for the period of 2021-2030, with a vision towards 2050, was approved in Decision No. 893 dated July 26th.

The share of renewable energy is increasing.

The comprehensive energy planning aims to ensure national energy security, develop synchronized, rational, and diversified energy sources; promote and create favorable conditions for all economic sectors to participate in energy development.

In particular, to work towards the net-zero emissions target by 2050, this planning places great emphasis on equitable energy transition, with the goal of renewable energy accounting for 15-20% of primary energy supply by 2030 and approximately 80-85% by 2050.

Regarding the total petroleum reserves for the entire country (including crude oil and products), it is projected to reach 75-80 days of net imports by 2030. Beyond 2030, the plan considers gradually increasing reserves to 90 days of net imports.

Regarding gas: Ensure reserve infrastructure for LPG with a capacity of up to 800,000 tons during the 2021-2030 period and up to 900,000 tons for the period after 2030; for LNG, the target is 20 million tons per year during the 2021-2030 period and 40 million tons per year for the period after 2030.

The objectives of titanium minerals are, to develop the titanium mineral exploitation and processing industry with a reasonable roadmap and scale, suitable to each stage, gradually forming mining - recruitment technology complexes, titanium mineral processing industrial clusters synchronous with infrastructure;

For rare earth minerals, the objective is to develop the industry for the exploitation, processing, and sustainable use of rare earth minerals in a coordinated, efficient, and sustainable manner. Newly licensed enterprises for rare earth mineral exploitation must be associated with processing projects to produce at least total oxides, hydroxides, rare earth salt with a TREO content ≥ 95%.

In addition, the organization selects investors to implement energy and mineral projects in the fields and areas under management according to the planning orientation, especially key investment projects.

Moreover, priority will be given to land fund allocation and close coordination with investors to effectively carry out land clearance, compensation, resettlement (if any), and create favorable conditions for the implementation of projects as stipulated.
