Construction during Tet to extend power to the North

The 500kV line from Quang Trach to Pho Noi, including 4 component projects, is a significantly important project aimed at enhancing the transmission capacity of the North - Central 500kV grid, stabilizing the operation of the national power system, and contributing to the electricity supply for the North. Contractors are actively implementing the project, striving to complete the electrification by June 2024.

At a meeting of the Steering Committee on the implementation of the 500kV line projects from Quang Trach to Pho Noi on February 16, 2024, in Hanoi, EVN's General Director Nguyen Anh Tuan stated that during the Lunar New Year of the Rat, the investors and contractors worked in 3 shifts, 4 teams, throughout the holiday period.

According to Mr. Tuan, the work of handing over column positions has reached 91%; the right-of-way part reaches 25%. The entire project consists of 226 bidding packages, of which contracts have been basically signed, with only 4 bidding packages undergoing final procedures in the next few days.

Sharing with Bao Dau Thau (Bidding Newspaper), officials responsible for bidding management under the Northern Power Project Management Board of National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) said that at the 500kV line projects from Nam Dinh I Thermal Power Plant to Pho Noi and from Nam Dinh I Thermal Power Plant to Thanh Hoa, contractors are mobilizing manpower and resources to ensure project completion by June 2024.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hai, Deputy General Director of Song Da 11 Joint Stock Company, said that to ensure progress, the company has concentrated on construction even during Tet. "We are implementing the foundation construction, progressing with the basic bidding packages to meet requirements. The site work is basically smooth..." Mr. Hai said.

Alongside the lively construction atmosphere of this project, many other electricity projects such as Quang Trach I Thermal Power Plant; Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant expansion... are also determined to ensure progress.

Mr. Vo Quang Lam, Deputy General Director of EVN, stated that the primary task of the Corporation in 2024 is to ensure electricity supply. "EVN undertakes to supply over 37% of the electricity source structure. We ensure sufficient coal supply, the readiness of power plant units as well as water storage for hydropower plants... So far, units under the Corporation have been carrying out this task well," Mr. Lam said.

Ensuring no coal shortage for electricity production

In an exchange with Bao Dau Thau, a representative of Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV) stated that TKV is also making efforts to ensure "no coal shortage for electricity production".

According to TKV, from February 8 (the 29th day of Tet) to February 15 (the 5th day of Tet), the Group produced 72,000 tons of raw coal, imported 126,000 tons, consumed 267,000 tons, meeting the coal demand of customers and providing sufficient coal for electricity production during Tet.

A representative of TKV said that on February 13, 2024 (the 4th day of Tet), many units such as Deo Nai Coal Joint Stock Company, Cao Son Coal Joint Stock Company - TKV, Hon Gai Coal Selection Company, Coc Sau Coal Joint Stock Company, Cua Ong Coal Selection Company - TKV... held Spring opening ceremonies and resumed work after the Tet holiday.

In an exchange with Bao Dau Thau, Mr. Bui Minh Tan, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Electricity Corporation, TKV, stated that the Corporation is making efforts to implement solutions contributing to ensuring electricity supply for development. "The Corporation aims to operate power plants stably, minimize incidents, and meet electricity production requirements," Mr. Tan shared.

Regarding investment and construction activities, the Corporation, along with the contractor awarded Package No. 28 EPC - Main plant of the Na Duong II Thermal Power Plant project with a value of over VND 3,300 billion, is actively implementing necessary procedures to commence construction in April 2024, aiming to complete the Plant by 2026, contributing to electricity supply for the North.

To ensure the supply source amid the increasing demand for electricity, on February 14, 2024, the Prime Minister issued Directive No. 05/CT-TTg on ensuring electricity supply, coal, and gas supply for electricity production. In this Directive, the Prime Minister directed relevant ministries, sectors, the State Steering Committee for key national programs, focal points for the energy sector... to resolutely focus on implementing solutions to ensure electricity supply for development.

With the resolute and practical direction of the Government and the active participation of investors, contractors, electricity generation and transmission projects are expected to meet the schedule, contributing to addressing energy challenges for development in the coming time.
