Ninh Thuan is building on the advantages to develop wind and solar energy with the aim of becoming the center of energy and renewable energy nationwide.

The People's Committee of Ninh Thuan Province has submitted a resolution on the construction of Ninh Thuan Province to become a country's energy and renewable energy hub for approval by 2025, with a focus on 2030. The goal is to effectively harness and promote the province's energy development potential and strengths. Renewable energy, in particular, helps to ensure energy security and to promote socio-economic development.

Ninh Thuan is a region with great potential for solar energy for power generation as well as for domestic needs.

This province enjoys favorable climatic conditions as it is less affected by winds and storms, which is an ideal condition for building solar power plants.

According to the study, Ninh Thuan has a constant wind flow for 10 months with a speed of 6.4-9.6 m/s, ensuring the stability of wind turbines to generate electricity. The locality also benefits from great solar radiation with an average total of 2837.8 hours of sunshine per year, the highest in the country.

Officials of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Ninh Thuan province said there are currently 35 solar power projects with a capacity of 2,412 MW in the province and 11 wind power projects with a capacity of 666 MW have been commissioned.

The resolution to make Ninh Thuan province a nationwide energy and renewable energy hub sets the goal that by 2025, the total capacity will increase by about 3,000 MW to reach the cumulative capacity of 6,500 MW. Solar power has reached 3,440 MW, onshore and nearshore wind power has reached 1,200 MW, war hydropower 360 MW and LNG electricity 1,500 MW. Electricity generation reached 11.2 billion kWh.

The province expects the energy and renewable energy sector to contribute 22 per cent of GDP and 29 per cent of the province's total budget revenue. At the same time, it meets 5.5 per cent of job demand in four key economic sectors in the province. The province is also striving to form a centre for applied research and development of renewable energy technology, attracting a research investment project and equipment manufacturing in the energy sub-sectors.

By 2030, Ninh Thuan province aims to increase the total capacity of power plants by about 5,300 MW, bringing the province's power capacity scale to 11,800 MW, which will solve 7.3 percent of the job demand. Achieve the goal of making Ninh Thuan a center of sustainable renewable energy and energy.
